What are the hazards of sulfur powder to human health

The so-called sulfur powder is actually a powdered product made from sulfur as a raw material. We all know that sulfur product powder has many uses in daily life and has broad applications in industrial manufacturing. However, there are also many harmful substances in sulfur, which can pose a threat to human health in direct contact. Sulfur product powder may cause poisoning to the body in certain situations and have adverse effects on the respiratory and circulatory systems.

Therefore, it is recommended not to come into contact with sulfur powder casually to avoid poisoning. If left at home, keep it out of reach of children.

Sulfur and oxygen combine to form sulfur dioxide, which, when in contact with water, becomes sulfite. When sulfite enters food, it not only destroys vitamin B1 in the food, but also forms insoluble substances in calcium, affecting the absorption of calcium by the human body. Free sulfite still has a stimulating effect on the human gastrointestinal tract.

If industrial sulfur powder is used for fumigation of food, people may even experience more serious poisoning after consumption. Therefore, consumers should try to avoid purchasing and consuming food that looks suspicious, or soak it in water a few times before eating to reduce the amount of sulfite residue in the food. Due to increased exposure to sulfur, processors have a higher chance of poisoning, making it more severe.

Sulfur powder poisoning can cause symptoms such as redness, eye pain, tearing, and insomnia in mild cases, and reflex glottic convulsions in severe cases, manifested as decreased speech ability, difficulty swallowing, and suffocation.
